National Dump the Pump Day
On June 17, 2010 American Public Transportation Association (APTA) and public transportation systems across the country will celebrate the 5th Annual National Dump the Pump Day.
In these tough economic times with high gas prices, everyone is looking for a way to save money. National Dump the Pump Day encourages people to ride public transportation (instead of driving) and save money. APTA has once again created an online toolkit for your use in promoting Dump the Pump Day.

Who should attend?
Priority will be given to employed and volunteer drivers from Oregon agencies receiving federal or state transportation funding. Other transportation program drivers may also attend on a space-available basis.
Cost
FREE! — The Oregon Department of Transportation Public Transit Division is sponsoring this course as a service to Oregon transportation providers. There is no cost for the trainer and curriculum; the host agency is required to provide a meeting space, beverages and to enroll the drivers. The host agency will work directly with the trainer, Larry Christianson, to schedule the date and location of the training. The host is also asked to open the training up to other transportation programs in the area to fill the class.
We ask that the following be provided:
- A room set in classroom style with tables for attendees’ materials and a screen
- A van/bus with lift or a passenger van with ramp – the vehicle should be determined by what is predominantly used for your service. We can practice with both if both are used by your agency.
- Two common wheelchairs – one will be used for vehicle securement proficiency while the other is being used for wheelchair curb proficiency.
The class schedule is 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. Access to the room is needed at 8:00 for A/V set-up.
